Invoices and bookings

What is the difference between editing, cancelling and voiding?

Edit changes a bill and keeps the old copy, Cancel withdraws a bill for good, and Void undoes a payment you recorded by mistake. Edit an issued invoice or proforma, and saving makes a new version with the same number. The earlier version stays in the Versions list as it was sent, with what changed and who changed it, and you choose whether the customer is sent the updated copy. Once money has been received on a bill, only its notes, the customer’s reference, the due date and their email, phone and address can change. Cancel marks the bill Cancelled for you and for the customer, and asks for a reason. Its number stays in your records and is not used again, its PDF is stamped Cancelled, and no message goes to the customer. Only an admin can cancel, it cannot be undone, and a bill with money received on it cannot be cancelled until that payment is voided. Void is for a payment, not for a bill: the amount stops counting as received and the invoice shows a balance again. The receipt keeps its number and is marked Void, and nothing is sent to the customer. Only an admin can void a payment, and it asks for a reason. Delete is only for drafts, which have no number yet. An issued bill is never deleted, and a bill is always dated the day it is issued: it cannot be back-dated. To change the amounts or items on a bill that has a payment, void the payment first, or cancel the bill and issue a new one. A quotation has its own words for the same things: Revise makes a new version, which the customer must accept afresh, and Withdraw quotation takes it back. Once a bill has been raised from an accepted quotation it can no longer be revised or withdrawn; cancel that bill first, or use Quote again for a fresh one.
