WhatsApp error 131047
Error 131047: Re-engagement message: the 24-hour window has closed
Error 131047 means you tried to send a free-form message (text, media or an interactive message) more than 24 hours after the customer last messaged you. Outside that window WhatsApp only allows approved templates. Send a template instead; when the customer replies, a new 24-hour window opens.
- Meta’s description
- “More than 24 hours have passed since the recipient last replied to the sender number.” Meta’s error codes, 4 October 2026
- Charged by Meta?
- No. Meta charges only for delivered messages, and this one was not delivered.
- Shown in Fliok analytics as
- “Re-engagement (24h window)”
Common causes
- A free-form reply sent after the customer’s 24-hour customer service window closed.
- A message scheduled or queued while the window was open, sent after it closed.
- An integration sending plain text to a customer who has not written recently.
How to fix it
- Send an approved template to re-open the conversation.
- Reply sooner: every message the customer sends opens a fresh 24-hour window.
- For leads from Click-to-WhatsApp ads, have a re-engagement template approved so you can use the 72-hour free entry-point window.
What Fliok does about it
- Fliok checks the window before a free-form message leaves: the inbox and the REST API refuse it with a clear “outside the 24-hour window” error instead of letting Meta fail it.
- A scheduled free-form message is checked again when it is due; if the window has closed by then, it is recorded as failed with 131047 and not sent.
- The AI agent never sends a free-form message after the window has closed; its follow-ups to ad leads switch to an approved template between hours 24 and 72.
- Any that still happen show as “Re-engagement (24h window)” in the analytics failure breakdown.
Meta sets and changes these codes. If anything here disagrees with Meta’s current reference, Meta is right.
24 hours from the customer’s most recent message. Each new message from them resets it. Inside it you can send any message; outside it, only approved templates.
When someone messages you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page button and you reply within 24 hours, Meta opens a 72-hour window in which your messages are free. Free-form messages still need the 24-hour window; between hours 24 and 72 you send approved templates, free of charge.
