WhatsApp error 131050

Error 131050: Recipient stopped your marketing messages

Error 131050 means the person turned off marketing messages from your business in WhatsApp, so Meta will not deliver your marketing templates to them. Stop sending them marketing, and do not retry: the message will not be received.

Meta’s description
“Unable to deliver the message. This recipient has chosen to stop receiving marketing messages on WhatsApp from your business.” Meta’s error codes, 5 October 2026
Charged by Meta?
No. Meta charges only for delivered messages, and this one was not delivered.

Common causes

  • The recipient used WhatsApp’s option to stop marketing messages from your business.

How to fix it

  • Do not retry the message.
  • Stop marketing templates to that person. Meta suggests subscribing to the user_preferences webhook to follow their choice.
  • If they turn marketing messages back on, you can send to them again.

What Fliok does about it

  • Fliok listens for the update Meta sends when a customer stops or resumes marketing messages, and marks the contact as opted out of marketing only. Marketing to them is then held back before it reaches Meta; utility and authentication messages still go.
  • If the customer resumes marketing messages, Fliok opts them back in.
  • Fliok does not retry a send that failed with 131050.

Meta sets and changes these codes. If anything here disagrees with Meta’s current reference, Meta is right.
